Forest Elementary School students got a special treat Friday, Oct. 24, when they got to watch a performance by Shades, a music group from Yale University that includes Forest and West Haven High School alum Abdul-Razak Zachariah!

Shades is a coeducational, entirely undergraduate run non-profit organization founded in 1988 to celebrate music of the African Diaspora and the African-American tradition. They sing everything from traditional spirituals and folk songs to jazz and R&B. A central aspect of their mission is to educate people about the music they sing and cultural traditions. They frequently come to schools to share their music as well as discuss their experience as Yale students.
