On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, Forest Elementary School hosted a Literacy Night and provided families with a delicious ziti dinner from the West Haven Public School’s Food Service!
The theme of the night was local authors reading books they wrote while offering a Q&A. Christina Cappetta (author) and her daughters Luciana and Mariella Cappetta (illustrators) were former Forest students and read their book, “It’s Raining Pizza.”
Additionally, Forest’s 3rd-grade teacher Stacey Giauinto read her book, “Sticky Green Noses Help Save the Brook”. This book launched her Litter Awareness Educational Program to teach about the consequences of littering and single-use plastics to help create new habits for positive and permanent changes. Her passion to “spread the message, not the mess” mixed with her positive enthusiasm was contagious!
The hallways and walls were decorated with student-created art based on the books that were read, including some other authors as well. Forest’s Art Teacher Vicky Burford worked with the students before the event to explore their favorite books and characters to make a creative display.
There were book giveaways for families as well, so children could take home a book of their choice!
