We are thrilled to introduce you to our new principal, Latanya Watts Joyner, who joins our school community with a wealth of experience and a passion for education. In this special Q&A feature, Principal Joyner shares her vision for the future, her commitment to fostering a culture of learning, and a little bit about her journey in education. We hope this conversation will help you get to know Principal Joyner better as she embarks on this exciting new chapter with our school.
Q: What are you most excited about/looking forward to entering the new school year?
A: I am excited to collaborate with the staff, students, and families in the Forest Community. I am thrilled to work in partnership to ensure the students receive a wonderful educational experience. It is rewarding to work with the young bright minds of the future. I am anticipating a fantastic school year.
Q: Can you describe your leadership qualities/what you bring to your new school? What can students and staff expect?
A: Forest Community will have a leader who has a shared vision for success, keeps the lines of communication open, and builds positive relationships. I am dedicated to promoting a culture of learning.
Q: How long have you worked in education and what other schools have you worked at?
A: This school year will mark my 26th year in education. I have worked as a Literacy Teacher, First Grade Teacher, Second Grade Teacher, Title 1 Reading Teacher, Reading Consultant, and Assistant Principal. I have worked at Mackrille, Seth Haley, Molloy, and Carrigan, and my new home is Forest Elementary School.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A: During my time in West Haven, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the best educators, families, and community members. I have enjoyed each of my positions and I am grateful for all the opportunities.
