Pictured here is last weekโs annual distribution of summer reading books at Forest School! Pat Roy, Joy Northam, and Mary Howland, aides at Forest, organized the bookroom a.k.a. โThe Owlโs Nestโ so that students would be able to select books of interest. Research has found that books in the home can be a factor in academic success, so these books are going into the homes!
Today is the last day of school! We hope everyone enjoys their summer and comes back in the fall refreshed and ready for another great school year!
Congratulations to all our pre-K students at Forest Elementary School on their graduation, and best of luck to them in kindergarten!

The Literacy Volunteers of Woodmont donated hundreds of books to the West Haven Public Schools this school year. These books have been greatly appreciated by teachers and students and have found their way into many classroom libraries. The books supplied have been given to students to take home as an effort to create โbook-richโ family environments. Research shows that books in the home can contribute to future academic success. Pictured here are students from Savin Rock reading the books! They also wrote Thank You notes to the Literacy Volunteers of Woodmont!

The โReading Buddiesโ groups are back in action at Forest School! Yesterday, the first session of many to come, took place in the library as classes came together for the first time since the Spring of 2020. Below are photos from Jackie Withingtonโs 4th-grade class with Tricia Careyโs kindergarten class. The older and younger classes are paired up to have the โbuddiesโ take turns reading, which gives the older students a chance to practice their fluency skills as they support the early readers with decoding and comprehension. It is such a positive experience for all the students!
